PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF URINE

Learning Plan 4

Why This Skill Is Important:

You may have notice urine variation in color intensity or a different odor after eating asparagus. During this learning plan we will recognize what physical characteristics of urine are normal and abnormal as well as relating abnormal characteristics to possible chemical or microscopic abnormalities. An example: If the urine is cloudy, will we have positive tests for white blood cells, bacteria, or red blood cells?

Competencies

Interpret physical properties including specific gravity.
Correlate physical properties and chemical analysis of urine to help determine the validity of the results.

Core Abilities

Demonstrate critical thinking
Use science and technology
