CPAA
at the Madison Area Technical College is dedicated to making quality
basic education accessible. The division addresses the unique
needs of individuals and families within our district so that they
may acquire the skills and knowledge needed to participate fully
in all aspects of modern society. This course is designed to
prepare you for completing the National GED or the Wisconsin HSED. You must take the
actual tests at a testing center. MATC's testing center is on
Commercial Avenue.
Out of state students are welcome to
use any materials on our website. You must take the GED in your

Education and Instructional Courses
Most Madison
Area Technical College CPAAC courses are offered
tuition-free. To register, students must
contact the Alternative Learning Division at (608) 258-2440 or

The
General Education Development (GED)
prepared by the
American Council on Education
There are 5 GED tests: writing, social studies, science,
reading and mathematics. The standardized GED tests are given on a
regularly scheduled basis at the MATC Testing Center.
Applicants for the GED must also participate in career awareness
counseling, which includes an assessment of reading skills, an
assessment of career interests and aptitudes, and the development
of a career plan. A fee is charged to take GED tests.

The
High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED)
Individuals who wish to obtain an HSED must pass all the GED
requirements and meet requirements in health, civic literacy and
employability skills.
