Radiant Source brings to life Marie Curie’s quest to explore the secrets of radioactivity at a time when women couldn’t vote, own property, or attend university. Portraying Madame Curie as a wife and mother as well as a scientist, the play integrates her scientific work and discoveries with scenes of her marriage and family life. Themes of science and family come together when Marie nurtures her teenage daughter’s passion for science and mother and daughter work side by side in the laboratory. Written by chemistry instructor/playwright Holly Walter Kerby to engage young audiences in the excitement of discovery, Radiant Source combines the mystery of science, the spectacle of theater and the true story of one woman’s triumph over adversity in a production that will entertain, engage, and inspire audiences age 8 and older
Radiant Source (90-minute version) premiered November 2003 in Madison Area Technical College’s black box theatre to sell out crowds. This production was directed by Pat Thom and sold out 8 of 11 performances including matinees attended by area middle school students.
