Kerby is also the founder and Executive Director of Fusion Science Theater, an NSF-funded project that creates informal science education shows that use theater, inquiry, and participatory techniques to catalyze science learning in children 4 through 14 years.
Brief Bio
Holly Walter Kerby teaches chemistry and playwriting at Madison Area Technical College where she won the Teaching Excellence Award in 2007. She’s also worked as a chemist and manager in industry, and in K-12 education as a teacher and research specialist. Her plays have been published and produced in theaters and museums across the country. In 2006, Kerby founded Fusion Science Theater to create science education outreach shows that combine theater and participatory techniques to teach inquiry-based science lessons. This project was awarded an National Science Foundation Informal Science Education planning grant in 2007, and has been growing by leaps and bounds ever since.
Kerby holds degrees in Chemistry and Soil Biochemistry from the College of Wooster and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She studied playwriting at Western Michigan University and University of Wisconsin-Madison and completed a Teacher Certification Program at the latter institution. Kerby is a member of the Dramatists Guild, America Chemical Society, National Science Teachers Association, and International Museum Theater Alliance.
