MATC requires that everyone participating in one of our travel experiences must have proof of health coverage while traveling abroad. To find out if you are covered under your current health plan, simply call your health insurance customer service. Health insurance coverage while traveling abroad is the only insurance that MATC requires.

You may also choose to buy travel insurance, such as trip cancelation insurance. This is optional, but most of our past participants have done this and we recommend it. We suggest Travel Guard, a company in Stevens Point, WI, because we are familiar with their reputation. You may purchase from whomever you’d like.

Travel insurance can provide coverage for: trip cancelation, emergency health services, lost baggage, etc. See Travel Guard’s website for more reasons if you are wondering if this is the right thing for you to do.

The most appropriate and most affordable Travel Guard plans for our French Odyssey participants are probably the Savvy Traveler and the Travel Guard Essential. We were told that the Savvy Traveler is the cheapest. However, Savvy Traveler only covers the traveler. If you have a death in the family that causes you to cancel your trip, that is not covered under the Savvy Traveler. Travel Guard Essential does cover this situation. Also, if you purchase the Travel Guard Essential within 15 days of your first deposit (which is due Nov. 15), you can automatically upgrade to the Travel Guard Essential Expanded coverage.
