Alternative Learning Division
Mission
The Alternative Learning Division is dedicated to making quality education
accessible. It is the mission of the division to serve a diverse population
including adults needing English as a second language and/or seeking high school
completion and basic skills, family literacy, institutionalized adults, students
with special needs, workplace participants, and MATC students needing
developmental and remedial instruction. It is our purpose to meet the needs of
individuals and families where they are and to help them accomplish their
personal goals thus supporting their full participation in all aspects of
society.
Direct instruction is supplemented by technology, peer tutors, volunteers,
supplemental instruction, interpreters, note takers, and text on tape at all
sites. District-wide the division serves more than 5,000 students annually
with instructional learning centers and/or classrooms located at all MATC
campuses - Downtown, Truax, Commercial Avenue, South Madison Education Center,
Fort Atkinson, Portage, Reedsburg, Watertown and numerous outreach sites,
including workplaces and corrections facilities throughout the district. Funding
is provided by the district and various local, state and federal funding
sources.
