Brainstorm ideas for multimedia use online
You no doubt noticed that this presentation is itself not very multimedia in content. It could be friendlier and more engaging. It would be nice to present this all in living color and sound, but as mentioned above, this is not very easy or practical to do at this point in the evolution of the Internet. Currently, it is a great challenge and no simple task to create online lessons with lots of graphics and sound.
But the technology now being developed is making it easier, so that soon we will easily be able to create online presentations complete with sound and video. Though it is difficult at this point, it is worth the added effort required because it will yield better understanding and appreciation for the process involved. The technology involved here is like your home entertainment center. You could learn how to use that DVD remote control so that you could better utilize the useful features designed into the system. On the other hand, if you are worried about falling behind the technology, don't fret because you will probably be able to purchase that new gizmo in the future which simplifies the whole process.
You've built a solid online course. Now it's time to start adding some of the furnishings, appliances, and decorations that make your home comfortable, nurturing, expressive, and alive.
Let's
brainstorm possible uses for audio, video, and graphics within our courses.
Whether you're just supplementing a face-to-face course…or putting your entire
program online, these tools can make the difference for your students. For
instance, imagine trying to learn a complex skill without being able to see it
demonstrated. If you put a video "demo" in your course, via CD or
link, your students can see the process and really understand it, on a deeper
level.
There are so many great uses for these tools. To begin your discussion, share
some thoughts on how you might use audio, video, and /or graphics in your
course. Read your coursemates' ideas and comment on them. Reply to comments left
for you. By reading your peers' ideas, you might get an epiphany regarding your
own course! That's part of the power of online learning!!
