5.09

Lynn B. asked that we refresh ourselves on the administrative rules for the 5.09 by referring to the rules listed on the cabinet.  She also suggested that if a student is working on a CEI and you need to leave, let  the new  or another instructor know.  Suggestions for the 5.09: more reading at increasing levels of difficulty should be included, journal writing would promote communication and writing skills, and a unit on how to organize information would be useful before starting the program.  It was also suggested that students be responsible for their portfolios.

PEP

A career awareness component will be added to the PEP.

Computers

Cauline said that in July we will be getting all new computers.  We will have a site license for Rosetta Stone and ALS/Govt. Civic Literacy course, World Book encyclopedia and the software for Writers Express (textbook used in Writing 3).  She is also looking for 20 career awareness students to pilot new software.

Materials organization

Lab teachers liked Jim Stickels suggestion for organizing books and tapes that accompany them together in hanging folders in the administrative area.  Jim will start working on this this week.

We reviewed math packets used in the math lab and decided to pilot the %, algebra and geometry packets for this summer.  Kou will take care of getting the copies made.

Other

People recommended that we get a glass case for our bulletin board outside the learning center.

GED focus in the level 3 curriculum is different that straight level 3 and materials should be organized in that fashion.

If anyone would like to make additions or corrections, please let me know.  We should be set up as a listserv to facilitate communication.
